• The Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi, has granted in-principle approval for the establishment of the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology in Hyderabad, as per letter No. 22/2/2024-DCHL/Estt.II, dated 01.03.2024.

• In accordance with G.O. Ms. No. 11 from the Commerce (Textiles) Department, dated August 2, 2024, the Government of Telangana has granted permission for the establishment of the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology. This institute will offer a three-year (six semesters) Diploma in Handloom and Textile Technology at the premises of Sri Potti Sriramulu University in Nampally, Hyderabad, starting from the academic year 2024-2025.

• Further to G.O. Ms. No. 17, Ind. & Com (Tex) Department, dated September 27, 2024, the Government of Telangana has issued an order renaming the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology to Konda Laxman Bapuji Indian Institute of Handloom Technology.

• The intake for admission into the Diploma in Handloom and Textiles Technology program is 60 students.

• The admissions for the academic year 2024-2025 have been completed, and classes commenced on September 9, 2024.

• The KLB Indian Institute of Handloom Technology is a government-run public institution of higher education in the handloom sector.

• There are six institutes in the central sector and five institutes in the state sector.

• The central sector IIHTs are under the administrative control of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

• The KLB IIHT in Hyderabad is a state-run institution under the administrative control of the Department of Handlooms and Textiles, Government of Telangana.

• The admission to the Diploma in Handloom and Textile Technology program is based on merit.

• All eleven Indian Institutes of Handloom Technology are under the academic control of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

• To be eligible for admission into the first year of the Diploma course in Handloom and Textiles Technology, candidates must have passed the 10th standard or an equivalent examination, with English as one of the subjects of study.

• The Government of Telangana's reservation policy is adhered to in the admissions process.

• The age for admission of a candidate should be between 15 and 23 years. For SC/ST candidates, the age limit is between 15 and 25 years, as of July 16th of the academic year.

• The CBSE and other educational boards have implemented a grading system for the 10th-grade examinations. Therefore, candidates must include proof of their marks from the CBSE or respective boards with their application form to facilitate the preparation of the merit list, which will be based solely on the marks obtained in the 10th-grade examination.

• Candidates who have passed the 10+2 examination with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, or those who have completed the 10+2 examination in a vocational stream, are eligible for admission into the second year of the DHTT Course (lateral entry) after successfully completing a bridge course in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry conducted by IIHT. Every student admitted into the course will receive a stipend of Rs. 2,500 per month for all three years, provided by the Government of Telangana.
